 ABOUT

The Past – Remembering Cities that No Longer Exist is a West–East/North-South artistic exchange project between up-and-coming artists from Europe, and the Middle East. Over the course of two weeks, between the 6th and 17th April 2016, guest local and foreign artists will engage in a collaborative research during artistic residencies and workshops in Amman and Ramallah aimed to build connections between the rich cultural and social context of these host cities and what have been central themes in Macras’ recent works. Namely the relation between architecture, photography, history, memory and identity – artistic reveries that have inspired the creation of Constanza Macra’s productions The Past  (2014) and Album (2016).  The outcomes of this international artistic exchange project will be dance performances taylor made for the partner festivals as well as public lectures/debates with a general local audience.  Activities will include:

AMMAN / JORDAN

The Amman Contemporary Dance Festival (ACDF) is organized since 2009 by the National Center for Culture & Arts (NCCA) of King Hussein Foundation. The festival falls in line with NCCA’s mission to promote cultural exchange programs; enhance the theater and dance movements in Jordan through programs that provide professional training courses in theatre and dance and producing original works in the above fields locally and internationally.The festival aims to provide audiences with an opportunity to further their appreciation of the aesthetics and techniques of contemporary dance in addition to providing artists the opportunity to expand their horizons & benefit from the experience of artists worldwide through attending various workshops in contemporary dance. The festival is held annually in April and hosts renowned contemporary dance troupes from all over the world. As part of the project “The Past – Remembering Cities that no Longer Exist”, Constanza Macras / DorkyPark, the National Center for Culture & Arts (NCCA) of King Hussein Foundation and Goethe-Institut Jordan will co-organize the following activities within the frame of the 6th Amman Contemporary Dance Festival :

RAMALLAH / PALESTINE

The Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival (RCDF) is annually organized by First Ramallah Group. It is an artistic festival specialized in contemporary dance, and was first held in 2006. In 2007, the Masahat Contemporary Dance Network, which in addition to First Ramallah Group includes Maqamat Dance Theater – Lebanon, Tanween Dance Theatre – Syria, The National Center for Culture and Performing Arts – Jordan, was established. Since 2007, contemporary dance festivals are jointly organized by these organizations. The festival aims at promoting dialogue and cultural exchange between the Palestinian people and the peoples of the world. It also aims to introduce a variety of contemporary dances to the Palestinian people and to develop the capabilities of those who work in the dance field in Palestine. The Festival targets the Palestinian public in general. As part of the project “The Past – Remembering Cities that no Longer Exist”, Constanza Macras / DorkyPark, the First Ramallah Group (NCCA) and Goethe-Institut Ramallah will co-organize the following activities within the frame of the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival 2016:

9th to 12th April 2016 in Ramallah including research visits to Hebron and Bethlehem

Performance followed by Public Talk by and with guest artists
13th April 2016 at the Ramallah Cultural Palace
